THE SNARKOLOGY HALLOWEEN HOP! Thank you, Melissa Snark, for organizing this every year! |
Halloween. A time when there are skeletons everywhere, there are horror movies on TV non-stop, and it's perfectly acceptable to scream.
It is a time when we welcome things into our lives that scare us a little. Give us a bit of a thrill.
Take my Halloween decorations, for example. They are full of spiders. Fake ones, yes. But spiders none-the-less. On every other day of the year, spiders freak me out. I cover my eyes when they are on TV, I hide FB posts that have those horrid spider videos, and I once made my husband get out of bed to deal with a spider in the bathtub. Yep. I'm that person.
But on Halloween?
I attach a massive black (albeit glittery) spider to my front door and spider webs on the entrance with a lot of little spider babies. Why? Because it gives my heart a little jolt when I see them. And it is safe and I'm in control. And the big one is glittery. (I mentioned that already, didn't I?) But, it is hard to take a glittery spider too seriously.
In my first Mannix Dragon Shifters book, Their Runaway Mate, Jasmine is scared of dragons. Mortified. So, when she discovers she's been sacrificed to the dragons, she bolts. On her first night on the run, she meet the head of the Mannix dragon clan... and, well, he's not quite as scary as she'd thought he'd be... In fact, he is sexy and enticing and... Jasmine is caught up in strange position of finding that she could actually come trust (and be attracted to) a dragon or two.
Now that I think about it, I bet Jasmine would have had a dragon on her front door at Halloween. (before she met Kylan and Dillon anyway...)

Spiders really freak me out. I ended up with an infection in my leg that the doctors said was from a spider bit. I hadn't even known I'd been bitten - I just woke up with my leg all swollen and sore.
ReplyDeleteBugs of any kind if they get on me. I'm not scared of them, but I find them really disgusting. *shivers*

I don't much like the dark, but spiders freak me out. And bugs. I screamed like I was being murdered just the other day because I turned around and there was a praying mantis on the back of my chair. Did my children come to my rescue? Oh no!! They had to peer at me and howl with laughter.
